In service to you, celiac reader, I decided to run an extensive taste test on gluten-free ice cream cones. I know, someone had to do it. It was me. And a few kids, because even I can’t eat that much dairy. So I raided the stores and came home with three different kinds of gluten-free ice cream cones: Goldbaum’s sugar cone, Edward & Sons cake cone, and Edward & Sons sugar cone. There wasn’t much of a competition here. It turns out, they are all totally delicious. I know! It’s a first in my “I ate that” series where I could not pick a winner, because every single one was a winner. Just like your mom told you. But just for the heck of it, let’s talk about how yummy these ice cream delivery devices actually are.
Do you want to know how good the Goldbaum’s sugar cone was? So good, my gluten-eating friend declared it to be indistinguishable from a gluten-filled cone. I would have to agree. It really is impossible to tell the difference. This is her daughter, agreeing that when you really stop and think about it, you still can’t tell the difference between the gluten and the gluten-free.
Of course the kids loved the cake cones from Edward & Sons. With sprinkles! Which Edward & Sons also makes. They think of everything, those dudes.
For the final ringing endorsement, my son, who has always rejected ice cream, finally decided to give it a try when presented with a gluten-free cake cone from Edward & Sons. Do you think he liked it?
While I may not be in the habit of eating ice cream cones every day (or I may be, I’m not telling), I love that there is not only a viable option out there for the gluten-free, but multiple ones that so totally do not suck.
Happy Labor Day!
